When KB asked me to be the author of his biography, I was secretly very excited, but I didn’t want to show it! I consider it an honor and privilege to be the one who gets to share his story with every one! And besides, who knows him better than I do, right?
He was born in Providence, RI. He has two sisters and one brother - he’s the 2nd oldest. He moved to Georgia back in 1999 to attend Toccoa Falls College. He graduated from North Georgia Tech in 2003 with a degree in Web Design and is currently working as a Senior Web Designer at Sage Software, Inc.
KB and I have been married for 7, going on 8 years. It’ll be 8 years in October! Isn’t that crazy? We share our life in Georgia, where we’ve been since before we were even married. We have a handsome, talented, compassionate, kind, and funny little boy named Nathaniel, who is 5 years old. We have a blue pit bull named Rhyno, who is the calmest, coolest dog you’ll ever meet!
KB is a man of many talents and interests. Not only does he love listening to and playing/writing music, but he also loves playing and watching football, he loves to fish, he is a master at maintaining salt water reef tanks, he’s a great artist - he has a very creative mind, he loves his GK Bullies family, he loves being in the studio, and he is the biggest New England Patriots fan in the southeast – hands down! He bleeds red and blue. KB and I have always had a healthily competitive relationship. But, I am proud to say that he is always a little bit better than me in every thing we compete at. He always seems to excel at whatever it is that he puts his mind to. That’s always been something that I’ve admired him for.
When KB and I first met, he was the worship leader for a band called 67generation, which consisted of close friends from the local church, and some very talented sisters from Tennessee. After we married, we dove right into the ministry together as husband and wife. I went with him to all the practices, all the gigs, all the meetings. For the first time, I was able to see how much work was involved and how selfless you had to be in order to be used by God. I saw how hard KB and the team worked, how much they trained, and how important it was that they do the job right. If you know KB, you know that he is a perfectionist – which is with good intent, because as it says in the Bible, “Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly as though you were doing it for the Lord and not merely for people.” (Colossians 3:23) And that’s exactly how he looked at it.
As we continued to serve, we rooted ourselves into the local church, and KB began a music ministry there that would encourage so many, from the older and younger generations. KB’s ability to lead his brothers and sisters into a heartfelt worship was something that the older generation had never before experienced. And for the younger generation, it was a source of inspiration and encouragement. We were able to see the church grow and mature, and eventually, raise up new worship leaders and worship teams. Amazing!
If you ask KB what he thinks the “peak” of God’s plans for him has been, he would probably reply with “HLUB 2004.” What an amazing week! I remember KB telling me one night, after we had already returned home, about what he saw and experienced on that stage. He said he could see God moving like a wave across the entire crowd. At one point, he became so humbled, he almost fell to his knees crying, but prayed for strength to stand tall and continue doing what it was that he knew God had called him to do at that very moment – leading His people into a meeting with Him. It was just an amazingly humbling and life changing week for him. For those of you who remember HLUB ’04, that was the year we all danced in the River!!
As his wife, I’ve loved watching him lead. You may think that I’m biased, but it’s actually always a very humbling experience for me as well. I’m reminded of how God can take normal, undeserving human beings like us, and do great things for His kingdom and glory. And trust me, KB is a normal, undeserving human just like you. Don’t let his mesmerizing guitar skills and precisely controlled vocals fool you. And don’t let the fact that he’s on stage hinder you from coming and introducing yourself to him. One of the joys of his calling is getting to know you. I would have to say, the thing that I admire the most about how he handles his role as a worship leader, is that he’s always been about the people. Honestly, it used to be a burden for me – always having to stay after to meet and greet everyone, even though we’re all tired and drained from a long day – but not for KB. It’s always been very important to him to build that relationship with his brothers and sisters in Christ, and to build up that network of fellowship, support, and encouragement. So don’t be shy. From watching him share his selfless love for people, he’s taught me how to love as God has commanded us to.
Some cool info to share about KB…He started playing guitar at 15, practiced for one week, and led worship the following Sunday with an acoustic and a microphone. He was very eager! And that was his humble beginning. Since first starting to play, he has NEVER owned his own acoustic guitar. His first guitar was his black and gold Epiphone that he played at HLUB – and it broke at HLUB, too. We bought that just about a year before HLUB. It’s now retired, and he has a new one…but that Epiphone was his first. He still has not owned an acoustic to this day. If you should come up and introduce yourself to him, give him a strong, firm handshake and look him straight in the eyes! That says a lot about a person. If you really want to get on his good side, bring him a plate of purple sticky rice and sausage, and he’ll love you. KB has this weird habit about accomodating those who can't speak English very well. If you listen to him hold a conversation with someone who speaks broken English, he'll gradually start to talk just like them. It's really funny listening to him. "Me-want-numba-one-wit-meat-ball."
God has been doing great things for KB and us as a family. Just recently, He’s confirmed His calling for us in the Hmong church. He’s confirmed His calling for KB in the music ministry. He’s blessed KB with this opportunity to record his second solo album. He’s blessed KB with opportunities to go out and share his music. And so much more!
Above all of this, KB is a great husband and father to me and Nathaniel. He makes an effort to love me as God has called husbands to love their wives. He is there for Nathaniel to play with, talk to, and learn from - Nathaniel is all about his daddy! I hope this biography does some justice in sharing who KB Xiong really is. He's a great man, husband, and father, and I am so blessed and proud to be his wife and his helper. |
